Detailed USCG Class Descriptions ​ ​ A Supervisor’s Guide to Reasonable Suspicion Testing This course meets the mandated requirement for Reasonable Suspicion Drug Testing training found at 46 CFR Parts 4, 5 and 16. It is designed to enable a supervisor to determine whether reasonable suspicion exists to require testing. This course provides supervisor training on the signs, symptoms and performance indicators of the five major drugs, prescription medications, a confrontation process, situations that constitute refusal to test, and a chart of drug and alcohol retention times in the body. PDF files with even more extended info can be found on many pages. A Certificate of Completion will print. An 85 page supplemental manual on CD is provided free. Refresher Training ​ For supervisors who have taken the initial “A Supervisor’s Guide to Reasonable Suspicion Testing” course. This course is designed to ensure supervisors maintain their understanding and “awareness” of the Reasonable Suspicion Testing process. The course is revised and updated annually and includes information on patterns of abuse for the five drugs, club drugs, inhalants, prescription drugs, and workplace confrontation processes. This course is designed to ensure supervisors maintain their ‘awareness’ of the Reasonable Suspicion Testing process. The course includes information on drugs tested for and alcohol, prescription drugs, patterns of abuse, ways to decrease workplace abuse, addiction and the actual costs of addiction in profits, salaries, and taxes. Note: The authors suggest training be refreshed every 24 months whether required or not. Employee Drug Training This course meets the requirements of 46 CFR Part 5,6, and 16, and includes information on the effects of alcohol and controlled substances on an individual’s health, work, and personal life; signs and symptoms of a substance abuse problem; and ways to get help. This course provides information concerning the effects of alcohol misuse and the five most commonly abused drugs - marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates & PCP. The course also provides the employee with information on Club Drugs and inhalants. A chart of drug and alcohol retention times in the body and a list of community help lines are all included. PDF files providing detailed information on the different drugs and other pertinent topics are accessible with a click of the mouse. There are chapter quizzes and a final exam. A Certificate of Completion listing the course, the individual’s name and the completion date should be printed and placed in the training file. Designated Employer Representative (DER) Training This training course provides a DER with a thorough education of his or her duties as outlined in the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for drug and alcohol testing (49 CFR Part 40). The course also includes a comprehensive dictionary of testing terminology, specific modal regulations and their procedures for workplace testing programs.
